UCB's Event Committee supports a range of fundraising and awareness events. One event the committee aims to grow into two major annual fundraising events is the UnitingCare Book Fair (Ballarat's Biggest Book Fair). The first Book Fair was held in November 2011. The committee aims to hold a Book Fair in March and November each year.
The Book Fairs sell hundreds of second-hand books at bargain prices. No matter what your interest may be, there will be a book for everyone: fiction, non-fiction, reference, hobbies, travel, children’s books, art, science, literature, history, biographies, old, rare or out of the ordinary.
As books are donated, all funds raised are able to be utilised towards our non-government funded programs such as BreezeWay Meals Program and our homeless support services.
The Book Fairs have no EFTPOS facilities so are only able to accept cash for book payments. It would be ideal if you BYO green bags or boxes, etc to carry home your purchases, however we will have a small amount of plastic bags available.
The Event Committee is always looking for further book donations and will take most books in good condition except Encyclopaedias and Reader’s Digest condensed books. If you have books that you wish to donate, please call Lisa on 5335 3507 Monday to Thursday and email to organise a book drop-off. Pick-ups may be arranged if you’re unable to drop them off.
We also require volunteers to assist with set-up, re-stocking tables, book sales and cleaning up after the event. To assist with Book Fair events, please call Lisa on 5335 3507 Monday to Thursday and email .
Boxes & Plastic Bags
We use a large number of boxes to sort and store the books throughout the year so donations of boxes would be great. Fruit boxes, ie/ strawberry or banana boxes are ideal. Plastic bags are also required for book purchases. If you have either of these items, please call 5335 3510 to organise drop-off.
