| An Australian Government initiative to enhance the rights of older people in Aged Care homes, nursing homes and hostels accommodation.
Community Visitors are volunteers who befriend a resident whose quality of life would be improved by friendship with a volunteer visitor. People wishing to become a volunteer are required to undergo an assessment, police check and attend training. Once they are approved, volunteers are provided with ongoing support and supervision.
The anticipated improvements in the quality of life for life for residents include: diminished feelings of depression and anxiety, increased sense of purpose and self esteem, feeling cared for and connected to their community
My Friend
The warmth I felt when I held your hand Has a special place within my heart Now that we have been drawn apart Our happy times are there to keep Now that you have gone to sleep I know that you will rest in a peaceful place When I look to the bright blue sky I will see your lovely face
