UCB's Karrung Foyer was recently awarded the Innovation in Service Delivery Award at IPAA Victoria’s Leadership in the Public Sector Awards.  For a relatively new service this was a great honour.  Well done and congratulations to all involved!

The Karrung Foyer Project is a supported housing service which is run by a consortium of providers from the Ballarat community, with UnitingCare Ballarat as the lead agency.

The project offers accommodation within a safe and secure environment for 16 to 25 year olds who are homeless, have a housing problem or are currently living in insecure accommodation or an unsafe environment.

Karrung consists of 10 one bedroom self-contained flats, 4 two bedroom self-contained flats and 3 bed-sits all with private bathroom and kitchen.  It provides young people with accommodation and gives them the chance to access training, employment and personal development opportunities all under one roof.

Karrung provides housing with support and it is the program’s aim to help young people to gain the skills and confidence to make the transition to independence by offering:

• Accommodation
• Personal Development Plans
• A Foyer-like Program
• Training and Employment Opportunities
• General Support

Karrung is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  Residents have access to a common room, garden area, laundry room & IT resources.  Other activities for residents include:

• Life skills workshops
• Youth work sessions
• Social activities
• 1-2-1 counselling sessions
• Weekly job club
• Action planning sessions
