Welfare and Support Services

The aim of UnitingCare Ballarat’s Welfare and Support Program is to assist families and individuals experiencing poverty and homelessness. Our programs are designed to provide immediate material support and the skills and knowledge that will assist people regain their independence.

Ballarat’s Meals Program For Homeless People – Breezeway is Ballarat’s only Meals Program. It freely provides a substantial and nutritional midday meal every day of the year.

The Emergency Relief Program provides immediate support to people experiencing difficulties obtaining food, clothing, pharmaceuticals, educational items and travel costs.

The Budget Advice Program assists people with household budgeting and advocacy with creditors, government departments and utility providers.

The White Goods Loan Scheme provides no interest loans to individuals and families to assist with the purchase of essential white goods.

Family Ties is Ballarat’s Family Sponsorship Program. Families experiencing difficulties are matched with sponsors. Current sponsors include community, business and school groups, families, groups of friends and individuals.

Living Better For Less is a 6 week program aimed at increasing participants skills and knowledge in areas that range from budgeting and cooking through to car mechanics.

Family Support – Wendouree provides counselling, advocacy and referral.

Supported Accommodation Assistance Program (SAAP) assists families who are homeless or at risk of homelessness

The Children’s Resource Co-ordinator supports SAAP workers with information, resources, referral, training and secondary consultation on children’s issues.

The Homeless Network Co-ordinator assists services involved with homelessness issues to establish a collaborative approach in their work.
